Graduate Diploma in Geriatric Dentistry (National University of Singapore) is specially designed for dental surgeons to receive additional training to deliver evidence-informed care to the elderly.


Australia and New Zealand

Special Needs Dentistry DClinDent (University of Adelaide) is a three year programme leading to a specialist registration. The course comprises a mix of coursework, clinical work, action/clinical research, research training and a research project.

Special Needs Dentistry DClinDent (University of Queensland) offers training at postgraduate level to provide special methods or techniques to prevent or treat oral health problems and develop special dental treatment plans.

Special Needs Dentistry DClinDent (University of Melbourne) is a three year specialist course designed to provide students with the opportunity to advance their professional knowledge and skills in SND to a specialist level, and to engage with new and emerging relevant fields of study.

Special Needs Dentistry DClinDent (University of Otago) is a three year specialist course that has a shortened diploma version (PGDipClinDent)

Special Needs Dentistry DClinDent (University of Sydney), is a three year full time specialist course aimed at qualified local and international dentists who wish to practice at the specialist level in field of special care dentistry.


United Kingdom and Ireland

Special Care Dentistry MSC (King’s College London) is a two year course (3 days a week, September to September) by the Dental Institute. There is particular emphasis on the use of behaviour management techniques, analgesia, sedation and general anaesthesia.

Special Care Dentistry D. Ch. Dent (Trinity College Dublin) runs over three years full time, or part-time over five years. There are selected modules as part of the MSc in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies, in the School of Psychology in University College Dublin. Clinical rotations take place in partner hospitals in Dublin.

Special Care Dentistry MSC (University College London) is an intensive one year course (or two year part time) in the heart of London in the Eastman Dental Institute.

Special Care Dentistry DDSc (University of Liverpool) is a full time course providing specialist training. Completion of the course enables eligibility to sit the Tri-collegiate Diploma of Membership in Special Care Dentistry (MSpec Care Dent) specialty membership examination from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) of Edinburgh, Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.


United States of America

Geriatric Dentistry MS (USC) is a 37 months MS degree program with (90%) online learning and (10%) other educational activities located at the Ostrow School of Dentistry at University of South California. It has a similar certificate program of 12.5 months with similar proportion of online component.

Geriatric Dentistry Fellowship (UCLA) is a two year training program in Los Angeles to prepare dentists with the specific skills needed to treat geriatric patients; educate them regarding the medically compromised older adult and the behavioral and psychosocial needs associated with aging in regards to dental management; and conduct independent research.

Geriatric Dental Medicine Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) (Boston University) trains students in the treatment of geriatric patients and adult patients with special needs through the 12-month program.

Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry (University of Iowa) is a one-year graduate certificate, in collaboration with disciplines in medicine and psychiatry, will prepare dentists to be leaders and teachers in Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry.

Advanced Graduated Education Program in Geriatric Dentistry Certificate (Harvard school of Dental Medicine) is a two-year multidisciplinary geriatric program in Dentistry, Medicine, and Mental/Behavioral Health at the specialist level. It also offers a Master of Medical Sciences degree (MMSc—two to three years), and a Doctor of Medical Sciences degree (DMSc—four years).
